Male infertility is any health issue in a man that lowers the chances of his female partner getting pregnant.

About 90 percent of couples conceive within one year of unprotected, regular relationship. There are many causes for infertility in men and women. In over a third of infertility cases, the problem is with the man.  Making mature, healthy sperm that can travel depends on many things. There can be factors which can stop cells from growing into sperm. There can be problems that can keep the sperm from reaching the egg. Even the temperature of the scrotum may affect fertility. The main causes of male infertility are:

  • Sperm disorders
  • Varicocoeles
  • Retrograde Ejaculation
  • Immunonologic Infertility
  • Obstruction
  • Hormones
  • Medications

Proper evaluation requires examination of the patient, semen analysis, blood tests and an ultrasonography. Varicoceles are one of the common surgically correctable causes for Infertility. Varicoceles are common in general population and have also been associated with infertility. Microscopic Varicocelectomy is the surgery required to correct Varicoceles.
